Meet the Team

Gillian Patch Principal Solicitor

Gillian is a specialist employment solicitor with extensive experience advising both employers and employees. She founded Patch Law in 2012 after working both in private practice and for the Manufacturers’ Organisation EEF, where she provided advice to a broad range of businesses from SMEs to blue chip companies.

Clients appreciate her understanding of the wider business context which is enhanced through her broad legal background. Gillian’s experience includes commercial law, commercial dispute resolution and civil litigation.

Prior to becoming a solicitor, Gillian ran a busy commercial department within a university, with responsibility for employed staff, freelancers and volunteers. She understands, from direct experience, the employer’s perspective and the need to focus on commercial solutions.

Gillian is passionate about achieving the best outcomes for her clients, and for making the process as comfortable as possible. Clients value her clear and down-to-earth style and her focus on achieving positive results. She also holds an MBA with Distinction and is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association. Outside of work she unwinds by singing with a choir and going for walks with her fun-loving labradoodle.

Alexandra Weston Legal Assistant

Alex joined Patch Law in the Autumn of 2019 after following the traditional academic route into launching her legal career, beginning with a law degree at the University of the West of England followed by the Legal Practice Course combined with a Master’s degree at BPP Law School.

Choosing the employment law option throughout each stage of her higher education, she is rapidly gaining further knowledge in this area in the course of her work with Patch Law. Alex is often our first friendly point of contact on the telephone for new clients, guiding them towards the most suitable service, and arranging appointments, as well as taking initial details and case information, so as to maximise the benefit of the consultation time when the client is advised by one of our solicitors. Alex decided to remain in her home town of Bristol throughout her studies, but still enjoys a beach holiday overseas with Miami and Las Vegas as her current favourite destinations. Samantha Walpole Practice Manager

Sam started working at Patch Law in 2019, she is also Practice Manager for a Partnership of doctors.

Sam has been in practice management for many years in the medical field and has also worked in business development for one of the main Medical Indemnity providers.

Her skills and knowledge enable Sam to turn her hand to the requirements of the management of both practices.

Sam prides herself on her empathy with the situations our clients can find themselves in, and always takes the time to listen to understand their worries, and will always offer them the exceptional customer service they need at what can be very difficult times.

Outside work hours, when she has the time, she enjoys relaxing in the garden - when the weather allows of course - being a taxi driver, makeup artist, hairdresser etc to her daughter who is a young dancer, or just enjoying life however she can.

Some of our Google reviews

5 star review  I instructed Gillian Patch of Patch Law who is a Grade A Solicitor during the Pandemic/Lockdown. I always check the SRA website to check how long someone is qualified for before I instruct them to ensure they are regulated. She was made aware of my personal restrictions in leaving my house. Several documents were sent to her and due to her extensive experience she was able to identify the relevant documents. She was also able to respond remotely in a tight timescale and there were no delays in her carrying out my instructions as a Client despite probably being very busy dealing with other Clients. She acted in the best interest of the Client by considering both the financial issues of leaving and the practical issues of leaving but also recognised the difficulties for a Client not being able to see a Solicitor in-person and the trust needed in the Solicitor-Client relationship. Instructions were provided remotely email and telephone and Geography was not a problem in terms of acting in her professional capacity. It was easier to discuss issues over telephone given that when I do go out I am conscious of wearing a face mask and that does create a barrier to communication. During the correspondence she was able to provide an objective opinion on the issues. There is often a saying an individual cannot be their own Doctor, the same is true an individual cannot be their own Lawyer. Your not objective on your own life. Having extensive experience myself with Solicitors I tried to keep the Legal costs to a minimum by responding quickly but also ensuring everything that needed to be covered was covered.

5 star review  I engaged Patch Law upon the recommendation of a friend and am so glad I did! I found Gillian an absolute pleasure to work with; warm and approachable whilst being extremely knowledgeable and strategic in employment matters. Gillian’s advice and support helped me to navigate my way through a difficult situation I faced at work on returning from maternity leave to a very satisfactory end. Gillian is certainly someone you want on your side of the battlefield and I couldn’t recommend her highly enough.
